Sunday April 23 walk
This month we have a 5 mile walk over Burley Moor.
Just turn up at Burley station at 10am. All welcome.
After reaching the edge of the moor via Moor Lane we gently climb up an old quarry track. After crossing Coldstone Beck there is a further climb to the Bronze Age burial cairn of Little Skirtful of Stones. Making our way across the moor we then find the Grub Stones and nearby Great Skirtful of Stones. Weather permitting there are superb views across into Airedale and Wharfedale as we walk down a well- maintained track then reach Green Lane via a little used field path.
We drop down to the Hermit to finish with refreshments at around 12.00. Food is available for those that want to stay on. To return to the station there is a choice of walking back down Moor Lane or through the fields to Hag Farm Road.
There are at least three stiles on the walk. Dogs on a short lead are welcome. Although quite a dry route be prepared in places for some rocky and uneven moor paths. Our pace will take into account that we will climb to one of the highest points on Burley Moor. We will make sure no-one is left behind.

Sunday May 21 walk
This walk is back to the third Sunday of the month. If the river level allows we plan to cross the stepping stones at Burley Weir so we can do a circular tour of the lovely countryside around Askwith. There will be an alternative route should the stepping stones be impassable.
Reminder: AGM Wednesday May 10
This year’s AGM will again be at the Red Lion, starting at 7.30pm.
Please come to give feedback about our work this year and ideas for the year ahead.
Danny Jackson, Manager of Bradford Countryside Services will talk about his team’s work to maintain and create public rights of way in the area. This includes the challenge to repair significant damage caused by last year’s storms.
Bingley Walkers are Welcome: Walking Festival Monday May 1
One of our nearest WAW groups is to have a one day walking festival in Bingley on the May Day bank holiday. There will be four interesting short walks.

Path improvements
Burley Walkers are Welcome and Lower Wharfedale Ramblers will have a joint working party on Monday 8 May to install two kissing gates at Stocks Hill on the edge of Burley Moor.
We are looking for an additional volunteer to join us for the half day session. No experience needed.
Please let me know as soon as possible if you are interested in helping out.
By our next email we will have a date for a June working party. This will aim to reclaim a ‘lost’ public footpath above Stead.
