November 2019
Friday walk on 1 November
This month’s walk is a low level 3.5 mile walk around Burley Woodhead. Meet as usual at Burley Station at 10.00. All welcome, just turn up. Dogs on fixed leads are allowed as long as owners have the required insurance. We will start off by heading past Scalebor Park using field paths to get to Stead Lane. Turning left towards Robin Hole, we will then follow the roadside path before following the Ebor Way past Hag Farm. The return to Burley will be along Carr Beck using ginnels and quiet roads. We will aim to be at the Coffee Station for refreshments by 12.00. Paths will be muddy in places, especially next to Carr Beck.
Sunday walk on 17 November
This month there will be a 5-mile higher level walk lead by Duncan Ault. It will start by taking the train to Menston Station before walking back to Burley via Riva Reservoir and Burley Moor. Meet at Burley Station by 9.45 in time to catch the 10.00 train. All welcome, just turn up. Dogs on fixed lead are allowed as long as owners have the required insurance.
From Menston Station we will walk to High Royds and then along the bottom of Odda Hill to reach Reva Reservoir. Crossing Bingley Road at Intake Gate, we will go over Burley Moor to Green Lane before dropping to Bleach Mill House for refreshments around 12.00. The return to Burley will be across the fields alongside Carr Beck. Paths will mostly be on good paths and tracks with gentle inclines and descents, with some occasional muddy patches.
Working parties
On 18 October a joint working party with Lower Wharfedale Ramblers replaced the last wooden stile with a self-closing gate on the Carr Beck footpath to Bleach Mill. It was one of the toughest stile replacements yet, taking five hours to complete due to the ground conditions. The adjoining waterlogged area now has a new dry surface, although walkers may still find the occasional damp stretch nearby. Thank you to the five people who have volunteered to do the training needed to use Bradford Council strimmers. Details about future working parties to follow in our 2020 emails.
Walk leader training

This will be suitable for anyone interested in leading or back marking for our monthly or festival walks. To find out more about what would be involved contact me at [email protected].
