July 2018
Sunday walk on 15 July
This month's walk 5 mile walk will explore the footpaths on the east side of the village towards Menston. Simon Archer will lead the walk. The route will follow the old railway line towards Otley (the proposed Wharfedale Greenway) to Acrecliffe Farm, then skirt around High Royds woods to Derry Hill in Menston before returning to Burley via Bleach Mill Lane. Refreshments will be at Bleach Mill House. The aim will be to return to Burley for 1.00pm. We will be walking along mostly level tracks and paths with two stiles to cross.
Meet at Burley Station at 10.00 as usual. All welcome, just turn up. Dogs on fixed leads are allowed as long as the owners have the required insurance.
No Friday walk in August.
Next walk is Friday 7 September. Details in our August email.
Moor Road footpath
We have just been awarded a £2000 grant by Ramblers Holidays Charitable Trust towards the cost of creating an all weather footpath alongside Moor Road between Burley Woodhead and the beginning of Stead Lane. Together with a £500 grant from Burley Parish Council and a £100 donation from a Moor Lane resident, this means we are now over half way to achieving our target of £5000. We have three other funding bids being considered this month, and three pledges from Burley Woodhead residents. We may, therefore, be getting close to being able to ask Highways to start planning to undertake the work.
Burley Summer Festival 18 - 27 August
Most Burley residents should now have received their Festival brochure. This gives full details of the fourteen walks we are providing this year, so we hope to see many of you on them. A reminder that bookings can be made in person at Burley Library from Monday 16 July at 2pm, and thereafter on Mondays until Monday 13 August. Online bookings will commence on Monday 16 July at 4pm. If anyone has any questions about the walks (other than bookings), then do not hesitate to get in touch.
