January News 2017
January 15 walk - Around Menston and Guiseley
Our walk next Sunday 15 January will explore rights of way and permissive paths around Menston before heading back to Burley, As usual we will meet at Burley Station car park at 10.00 and catch the 10.12 train to Menston. Everyone welcome . Just turn up.
From Menston station the route skirts the edge of Guiseley, past the Ings pub to reach fields and woodland around High Royds, We can then follow permissive paths to Menston. Although we planned to end the walk at the Red Lion they can't offer catering at the moment. Instead Sue and Simon will again welcome us at Bleach Mill, where we can enjoy more cakes and hot drinks as we did for our Christmas visit. We then return to the station via Hag Farm Road. The walk is about 5 miles, mostly low level and on well drained paths and tracks. There are some short uneven sections which could be muddy with a small number of stiles towards the end.
February 19 walk - Dog friendly Walkers are Welcome walk around Burley
As mentioned in our last email, dogs will be welcome on our February walk which will follow a dog friendly route up to Burley Moor. Those without dogs are of course welcome to join the walk as usual. Dogs will need to be on leads throughout the walk, and owners must confirm they have public liability insurance cover. Please check your pet or house insurance.
Future Sunday walks:
March 19
April 23

Footpath improvements
The stretch of public footpath between Scalebor Park and Stead which was seriously damaged by the December storms has now been fully repaired by Countryside Services. They have also taken up our suggestion to install a kerb to the lane to deflect floodwater. This is made of wood so only time will tell if this works.
Bradford Council walks
Guided walks are provided by Bradford on Sundays and Wednesdays, normally between 4 and 6 miles. Walks are free, moderately paced at about 2 miles an hour (same as for our walks) and usually involve taking a packed lunch. Details from www.bradford.gov.uk/countryside. Leaflets are available from Burley library.
Ramblers Evening walks
On Wednesdays and Thursdays there are also weekly evening walks in Bradford District provided by Ramblers through the winter.
