June 2017 News
Sunday 18 June walk
For this month’s walk we will make a second attempt to cross the river to visit Askwith and Weston – so far next weekend’s weather forecast looks good.
As usual meet at Burley Station at 10.00. All welcome, just turn up. Dogs allowed if on a short lead.
We head through the village to Burley Weir via Leatherbank. After crossing the stepping stones, we make our way up through fields to Quaker Cottage at the eastern end of Askwith. Walking along Hallam Lane we go down Moor Lane to reach Cockpit Farm tea rooms in Weston. After a short break for refreshments we go briefly along Weston Lane before returning to the Weir, via the bridle path and passing Quaker cottage again. Retracing our steps through the village we aim to arrive back at the station by 1pm.
The 5 mile route is mostly level along field paths and quiet lanes with one short stretch on a minor road which can sometimes be busy. Of three stiles on the walk, the two near to the stepping stones are not so accessible for larger dogs.
Should the stepping stones be impassable our alternative walk will be between Burley and Ben Rhydding. We will then try again to cross the stepping stones in September.
Future Sunday walks
After a break in July and August we will start Sunday walks again on September 17. Walks up to Christmas are planned on October 15, November 19, and December 17.
