August 2018
Burley Summer Festival walks
Walkers are Welcome will contribute to the Burley Summer Festival with a number of walks for all abilities. The first one is on Saturday.18 August. This year we have increased the number of places so there is still space on most walks. You can check what is still available and book places on the festival website at www.burleysummerfestival.org
From Saturday you will also be able to book in person at the Roundhouse each day of the festival from 10am to 4pm.
If you are booked on a walk, please come a little early to allow time to fill in a contact information card. We are trying out a new way to make sure that we always have an emergency contact name and phone number for everyone on our walks. During the walk the leader will hold the cards then hand them back at the end to be used again. This means you will only need to provide information once which should save time at the start of walks. If the system works, we will begin to use it for our monthly walks on Sundays and Fridays.
As in previous years, on Sunday 19 August we will have a Walkers are Welcome stall in Grange Park throughout the day where we will be selling our walking leaflets and books.. Look for us near to the library. Please come and say hello.
Sunday walk on 16 September
There will be no Sunday walk in August because of the Festival. The next one will be in September. More details in our September email.
Friday walk on 7 September
This will be a three mile walk towards Menston, returning back to Burley for refreshments at the Coffee Station. We will leave Burley Station at 10.00. All are welcome, so just turn up. Dogs on leads are welcome with the required insurance.
The route is mostly level and uses tracks and field paths that may be muddy in places. After reaching Bleach Mill Lane, we will walk through Menston, then across the fields back to the old railway line at Holme Grove. We will aim to get to the Coffee Station by 11.45.
Moor Road footpath project
We have now raised almost £4400 towards the £5000 cost of creating a footpath alongside Moor Road in Burley Woodhead. This will link Stead Lane with where the existing pavement ends. We will be making a concerted effort to reach our funding target during September. As long as the cost remains as quoted earlier this year, we hope to negotiate with Bradford Highways to undertake the work before the end of the year.
